I've been dealing with chronic diarrhea for most of my adult life after having my gall bladder removed in my early 40's (I'm 65). Two years ago my worst nightmare happened – I contracted C-Diff and was on extremely powerful antibiotics for 14 days. My gut biome was all but destroyed. I looked at it as an opportunity to rebuild it from scratch, the right way. I found this website and promptly ordered kefir and kombucha starter and have been fermenting ever since (sourdough, natto, etc.). I finally had the diarrhea mostly under control. Sadly, I had to have knee surgery late last year and was given prophylactic antibiotics prior to the surgery without my consent. My gut is in another tailspin, but that isn't why I'm writing. I'm working on rebuilding my gut biome yet again.
I have been exposed to COVID-19 at least twice this year that I'm aware of. The latest exposure, I was with several people who were actively contagious and who tested positive for COVID-19 later that day.
I have never had COVID-19.
Granted this is anecdotal, but I believe the benefits of consuming ferments have protected me from illness since I've started using them. I've always been generally healthy and only caught the occasional cold, but I thought this was surprising and wanted to share.
