Smell the roses!

I have had seasonal allergies since I was twelve or thirteen years old. For months in the springtime I locked myself inside the house and turned to drugs and steroids that harmed my immune system. This seemed to be what everybody did and I did the same because I had nowhere else to look.

After I discovered the power that cultured foods held for me, I went on a search-and-destroy mission to fix and heal these springtime allergies that made me feel like the world was coming to an end.  It took me seven to eight years to work with my body to understand what was actually happening.  The process of healing was a long one because there was much to learn.  I am sharing what I have discovered below.

When your body has a reaction to pollen, your body sees pollen as a foreign invader and then overreacts by sending out inflammatory substances to compensate.  Allergic symptoms are often nothing more than the body’s reaction to stress. The cells in our bodies have previously learned how to successfully cope with whatever stresses we presently have.  It is already built into our genes, chromosomes and DNA.

I learned that my adrenal glands were overworked and exhausted by the stress, so I discovered ways to support them and then I began to heal. The first thing I did was to eat every cultured food I could find. When I would eat cultured vegetables, the huge amount of Vitamin C and the B vitamins helped me tremendously.  In fact, kombucha has huge amounts of B vitamins, good bacteria, and yeast, and could make me feel better in twenty minutes. I discovered that B vitamins are the key to helping support your adrenal glands.  B vitamins are abundant in every cultured food – kefir, cultured veggies, kombucha, and sprouted breads.  In contrast, processed foods and sugars deplete B vitamins and spike insulin in a dramatic way, adversely affecting your adrenal glands.

Healthy gut flora -this is the number one thing you need in order to help your body absorb and use B vitamins, which in turn will strengthen your adrenal glands. Healthy gut flora will synthesize B vitamins, enzymes, and proteins so that we are never depleted. When the gut flora is out of balance, this production is impaired. It is crucial to be aware of the importance of probiotics in your diet to help repopulate healthy gut flora.

I noticed when I first starting eating cultured foods that the symptoms were greatly reduced, but they did not go away completely. Each year that I ate these foods, I noticed that the time I had my allergies was shortened – by about one week each year. What started out as two to three months of symptoms eventually was only three to five days of symptoms.  This was a huge improvement, but I found additional ways to support my adrenal glands.

I found that taking desiccated liver tabs was a key to supporting my body and I take them every day to this day.  Desiccated liver is dried liver that is formed into a tablet. These tablets have huge amounts of B vitamins and are a whole food supplement. They are effortless for the body to use. They are so powerful that they can make you feel fantastic within a few hours. We have a joke in our family: whenever one family member is grouchy, another will say, “Somebody needs some liver tablets.” It is such a mood lifter. I cannot tell you how much I love this whole food supplement. You can also eat liver but I have never found a way to handle it very well. I prefer to take the desiccated liver tabs because they are a convenient and inexpensive food supplement.  I take anywhere from three to twelve tablets a day during allergy season-but don’t be concerned, you get a lot when you order them.

I continued to improve with the cultured foods and desiccated liver tablets, continuing to reduce my symptoms and now down to three or four days.  Then two years ago, I found the missing piece that eliminated all my symptoms, allowing me to go outside and be a real person in the spring.

E3Live

E3Live

When I was teaching a cultured food class at a health food store, the owner of the store came to me and handed me a bottle of something called E3Live.  She said that the distributor had asked her to give it to me to try. It was frozen and needed to stay that way, so I placed it in my freezer and forgot about it. That next spring I found myself lying on the couch suffering three days of exhaustion from my allergies.  Even so, it was so much better than the months I used to experience. I was still upset because I couldn’t be myself and do the things I wanted to do. I was just so tired and that makes me crazy. I am used to having tons of energy, so I felt like somebody had put me in prison.  As I was in the kitchen getting something out of the freezer, the bottle of E3 live fell out of the freezer, landed on my toe, and broke my toenail.

I picked up the bottle and looked at the ingredients listed on the back.  I noticed it had huge amounts of vitamin B12 (2030% of the Recommended Daily Allowance), so I began taking three tablespoons per day of E3Live. Within a few hours all my symptoms were gone and stayed gone. I went on the internet and discovered all of the wonderful things about this product. What is E3Live?  It is blue-green algae with 65 vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and essential fatty acids.  Blue-green algae are an all-organic, wild-harvested aqua-botanical considered by renowned health authorities to be nature’s most beneficial superfoods. Along with the other things I was doing, this was the last piece that gave my body what it needed to heal.

I no longer have seasonal allergies. I take walks outside and smell the flowers. I wear heavy sunglasses when I take my springtime walks, because my eyes fill with tears as I hear the birds sing. I feel so grateful for the wisdom that came to me to cure this forty-year seasonal ailment and allows me to go outside and not be a prisoner in my home.

Below is a summary of what I did for my seasonal allergies.

Absolutely no sugar or processed foods, only healthy, nutrient rich foods.

My life changed as I have healed my adrenals. My adrenals have responded to my life style choices by giving me boundless energy and allowing me to only need five to six hours of sleep a night. I feel so good it astonishes me. I have such an appreciation for my own body’s ability to teach me what it needs, that it almost feels at times as if it could talk. It was always the journey of this life that I have been most interested in. I have always wanted to discover answers to life’s problems – only to find that the problems and struggles have brought the greatest joys to my life. This is my journey, but maybe it can help you find answers you can apply to your own life. I am always seeking to uplift others, as I have been uplifted. We all need each other to shed light on areas that might otherwise have been concealed in darkness. I hope this will help another person to lead the life they were meant to live – a life filled with smelling the roses along the way.

Is there anyone who sells e3 live by the single bottle? The company will only sell a minimum 6-bottle order. My track record with supplements isn’t great (sensitive bowel), so it would be folly for me to buy such a quantity without knowing if I would tolerate it. I would really like to try it, as I am having adrenal problems with accompanying hypoglycemia–not a good life.

    Hi donna,

I’m thiniking of trying e3 live, a product alot vegan and raw foodists consume. But i’m a meat-eater and am concerned that it may not be suitable. I can’t get any info on the web saying it is not suitable for meat-eaters however most testimonials I read are from veggies, vegans or raw-foodists?

When you say no sugar, does that include honey, maple syrup, and coconut? I’ve been taking cod liver, but dessicated is different? i would like to try this :)

donna, do you take liver tabs and E3 daily year round, or only during allergy season? Do you always restrict sugar 100% or only during allergy season? thanks for your insight!

    • I do take these year round. The e3live i don’t need to but really think it gives me more energy so now I am hooked. I try to not eat a lot of sugar as a general rule but this does not happen. Especially in the summer time. I do try to not eat a lot of it and make a lot of sugar free desserts but still have it sometimes. Mostly on weekends and then just something small. You gotta live and I find when I get to strict I don’t do as well and crave it more.

I’m a chronic asmatic, I control It through a plant based diet. Would this method work for dust mite allergy?

    • Crystal I have not tried it so I can’t answer this. I think the properties that are in the E3 are unique because of the way it is harvested. You could certainly try it. It is in the B vitamins and your bodies ability to absorb them that seems to make the difference. You have to have good gut flora and a constant supply of B’s to nourish and repair the stressed out adrenals. Anything that will do this will help you. But the enormous amount of B12 in E3 appears to be the key.
